Two additional drawers are found inside the lower right safe area (see pictures 9 & 10). Side carrying handles aided it moving this chest even when full of personal possessions (see pictures 1 & 4). This tansu chest is made of solid kiri.
Wood peg construction (see last picture). All the hardware is made of forged iron with a protective burnt lacquer finish. This tansu chest has total of seven drawers of various sizes. After 200 years the locks are bound in closed position but with some effort could be made operable.
All drawers slide easily without binding. This chest has a two century old warm aged patina. Ome minor restoration has occurred over the ages and the lower back rear has some putty fill (see picture 6). But overall it remains in fine original antique condition.And should serve one well for another century of use. It measures 23 13/4" wide by 20 3/4" high by 11 1/2 deep (60 x 23 x 29cm).
