This is a fine quality. Antique English Queen Anne / George I figured walnut chest of drawers, circa 1710, with stunning colour, in good condition.

The chest has been constructed with two small drawers above three larger graduating drawers, and splits into two sections for easy carrying. The top of the chest benefits from stunning quartered walnut veneers, decorated with feather inlays, cross banding and an ovolo moulding.

The drawer fronts are also decorated with feather inlay against a backdrop of mirror matched figure walnut veneers, flanked by a pretty moulded frame; all of which is typical of this period. The drawers feature later brass handles and back plates, which are of superb quality.

The drawers feature old replacement steel lever locks (with working key), possibly from the later Georgian period. The drawers are oak lined and are primitively constructed with hand dovetailed joints. The drawers slide on the original primitive central oak channels and runners. The sides of the chest boast the original decorative walnut veneers, along with the original backboards.

The chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze and is raised on later bracket feet (possibly late Georgian period). The frame of the chest has been built using the traditional peg construction method. The chest features a mellow walnut colour.

As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the hallway to the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home. So don't miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Height = 92.4cm or 36 or 3ft. Width = 95.9cm or 37¾ or 3ft 1¾. Depth = 55cm or 21 or 1ft 9.

This chest is in good condition considering the age of the item. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top, specifically, old marks, scratches and small watermarks (see photos) but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brass handles and back plates to the drawers are old replacements. There are working locks to all drawers; these appear to be old replacements (possibly late Georgian).

There is also a working key. The chest is raised on later bracket feet (possibly late Georgian). Please note, chests of this age usually have replacement feet due to the period of time they have stood on damp floors over the centuries.

The sides and backboards on the chest are original. There has been evidence of historical woodworm to the back; however, it has been thoroughly treated. Please note, antique furniture of this age and in particular furniture constructed of walnut was susceptible to traces of woodworm, as it was a softer timber. The chest was originally constructed in two sections (it has not been adapted in later years this way).

The chest retains its original polish and patination, which is why the chair a boasts a stunning warm colour.
