This is an early Showa vintage c. (sewing box) with a unique arrangement of four drawers and an additional 5th section under the lidded top (see picture 7). When the top section is removed it reveals a hidden sixth drawer. A finger hole is used to pull the hidden drawer out (see picture 9). The lidded top section is divided into three areas and includes a removable pin cushion box. This haribako has mulberry wood exteriors and paulownia (kiri) wood drawer interiors (see picture 12). Great skill was used in the workmanship in this chest with dovetail side joiner and beaded wooden surrounds on all drawers.

This chest has been well used yet well loved, with the exception of a few minor signs of past use, it remains in. All drawers run smoothly and the top lidded section swings open and closed with ease.
