Known as a kiri-kodansu (small personal tansu chest), this tansu chest was made of solid paulownia kiri wood over 110 years ago in the late Meiji Era c. This tansu chest is made of solid kiri.Wood peg construction (see last picture). All the hardware is made of copper with a nice aged patina.
This tansu chest has total of seven drawers of various sizes, two of which are inside a section with lift out door (see pictures 6 & 7) The large lower drawer has a lock that hold in place when the button is pushed up (see picture 10). All drawers and doors slide easily without binding. This chest has a century old original warm aged patina.
Having been used lovingly for over a century, it remains in very fine original antique condition. And should serve one well for another century of use. It measures 24 1/2" wide by 16" high by 12 deep (62 x 41 x 31 cm).
