This antique Japanese cha-dansu (tea ceremony) tansu chest was made over 90 years ago in the mid Taisho Era c. It was made for the purpose of storage and display of tea ware.
There is an open area in the middle to highlight ones prize tea bowl (see pictures 1 & 2). This cha-dansu is made of keyaki (zelkova) wood dovetailed case with kiri (paulownia) wood interiors. This tansu chest has a total of three drawers and four doors all of which move easily without binding.
This chest has a century old original warm aged patina and having been used lovingly over the centuries, it remains in very fine original antique condition. It should serve one well for another century of use.The tansu chest measures 24" wide by 10" deep by 24 high (61 x 25.4 x 61 cm). A great piece of Japanese history as well as an interesting very solid and functional piece of furniture.
