There is a "pinky" hole to aid in opening the 7th hidden drawer (see picture 6). The lidded top section is divided into two areas (see picture 5). This haribako has mulberry burl wood exteriors and paulownia (kiri) wood drawer interiors (see pictures 10 & 11). Great skill was used in the workmanship in this chest with wooden pin as well as dovetail side joinery and beaded wooden surrounds on all drawers. There is a unique slot on the side where a bamboo measuring device was once stored (see picture 8).
This chest has been well used yet well loved, with the exception of a few minor signs of past use it remains in. All drawers run smoothly and the top lidded section swings open and closed with ease.Please enjoy viewing the enlarged photos of this chest.
