This is a late Taisho antique c. (sewing box) with a unique arrangement of five drawers and an additional removable 6th drawer with 3 part section under the lidded top (see pictures 6 & 7). There is a hidden 7th drawer behind the tray in the lid. A side slot once housed a bamboo measuring device (not included). A clever "third hand" can be lifted out of the top area (see pictures 9 & 10).
This haribako has a beautiful cross cut zelkova wood exterior and paulownia (kiri) wood drawer interiors (see picture 10). Old world craftsmanship - made with wooden pinned box joints (see last picture). This chest has been well used yet well loved, with the exception of a few very minor signs of past use and some nails added to a middle drawer (see picture 11), it remains in. All drawers run smoothly and the top lidded section swings open and closed with ease. Please enjoy viewing the enlarged photos of this chest.
This chest measures 12 3/4" wide by 7 3/4" deep and 10 1/4 high (32.5 x 19.5 x 26 cm).
