This strikingly gorgeous campaign style bachelor's chest is an excellent example of Italian mid century furniture. The chest features a very light weight and strong pine ply frame and drawers, brass handles and screws, and a unique thick olive wood "patch burl" veneer throughout the piece. The olive wood burl veneer is as delightfully light in color as it is in weight, the entire piece weighing in at just about 20lbs. Any woodworker will tell you what was not light, was the process of making this incredibly complex veneer. Olive trees grow in a gnarled twisting growth pattern and they grow rather slowly, making single piece cuts from the tree longer expensive and hard to obtain but very strong and durable. The veneer was pieced together from over a hundred different pieces of normal and irregular growth pattern pieces and each piece was hand cut to fit into the next piece essentially in a large puzzle. The drawers' action is clean and the veneer has no chips missing or scores in the veneer. Overall, the chest is in great vintage condition, with all original hardware and a wonderful even patina throughout the entire piece that makes this piece an attention grabbing conversation piece in any room.
